Alumni begin the year in prayer during Interdenominational Session
The Alumni Relations Directorate began the year on a spiritually uplifting note by hosting an inspiring Interdenominational Alumni Prayer Session under the theme “Start Strong 2026: Doing It with God.” The virtual gathering brought together alumni from multiple campuses and diverse faith backgrounds, creating a shared space for reflection, thanksgiving, and spiritual encouragement as members embraced the year ahead with renewed purpose, unity, and commitment to alumni engagement.
The session was officially opened by the Alumni Relations Director, Ms. Virginiah Kiunga, who warmly welcomed participants and conveyed her New Year wishes. She led the opening prayer, thanking God for the gift of life and the opportunity for alumni to gather as a community. Ms. Kiunga reaffirmed the University’s continued institutional support for alumni personal and professional growth, emphasizing the importance of sustained engagement throughout the year.

New Year greetings and a devotional message were delivered by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Research Affairs, Dr. Mercyline Kamande. Reflecting on key milestones achieved by the Alumni Association in the previous year, Dr. Kamande encouraged alumni to remain prayerful, intentional, and steadfast in trusting God’s guidance as they pursue personal development, career advancement, and service to society in 2026.
A thanksgiving prayer session was led by Mr. Ambani Tyson, who guided participants in reflecting on the successes and blessings experienced in 2025, including alumni webinars, reunions, and engagement forums. Drawing from 1 Thessalonians 5:18, Exodus 15:11–12, and 1 Corinthians, he emphasized the transformative power of gratitude, noting that thanksgiving fosters a positive outlook, while its absence can hinder progress and growth. Alumni were encouraged to actively participate by offering prayers of thanksgiving.
Further reflections during the session underscored how gratitude renews vision and prepares individuals for future opportunities. Prayers were offered for wisdom, renewed purpose, and appreciation of both past achievements and anticipated blessings in the new year.
The interdenominational nature of the gathering was highlighted as a strong symbol of unity among alumni, regardless of faith background. Focused prayers were offered for alumni careers, families, personal growth, and the continued success of the University’s alumni engagements in 2026, reinforcing the importance of starting the year strong through collective prayer.
Additional reflections were shared by the Chairperson of the MKU Alumni Association, Mr. Gikera Kahara, through a devotion drawn from Proverbs 3:5–6, encouraging alumni to trust in the Lord and align all plans with God’s will. He also referenced Jeremiah 29:11 and Colossians 1:16–17, affirming that God’s plans are purposeful and that all things are sustained through Him. He urged alumni to start, stay, and finish strong in faith, careers, and service to society.
The session concluded with a dedicatory prayer led by the University Chaplain, Dr. Regina Kinuthia, who committed all the prayers offered and the entire alumni engagement calendar for 2026 to the Lord. A benediction was thereafter pronounced by Mr. Dan Kimondo, officially bringing the session to a close.
Overall, the Interdenominational Alumni Prayer Session reaffirmed the central values of gratitude, unity, faith, and continuous growth. The gathering served as a timely reminder that prayer and trust in God remain vital foundations for personal fulfillment, professional advancement, and collective progress within the University alumni community.
