The session formed part of the Business Webinar Series and focused on helping participants understand how to remain competitive, relevant, and resilient in a rapidly evolving marketplace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The webinar was moderated by the Director of Alumni Relations Virginiah Kiunga who welcomed participants and encouraged active engagement, networking, and knowledge sharing. Participants were given an opportunity to introduce themselves, share their professional backgrounds, and highlight opportunities within their respective fields via the chat section as the webinar continued. The session also featured brief presentations on available opportunities, including international job placements and maritime training programs, reinforcing the importance of leveraging partnerships and networks for career and business growth.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"518\" height=\"777\" src=\"http:\/\/alumni.mku.ac.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Webinar-Alumni.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-395\" srcset=\"https:\/\/alumni.mku.ac.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Webinar-Alumni.jpg 518w, https:\/\/alumni.mku.ac.ke\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Webinar-Alumni-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 518px) 100vw, 518px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>The webinar keynote speaker was <strong>David O. Sijenyi,<\/strong> an accomplished <strong>business consultant, certified coach,<\/strong> and entrepreneur with over 18 years of experience in sales, leadership, and enterprise development. He is the founder of <strong>Opportuno Consulting Ltd<\/strong> and has worked with various international organizations, training professionals and entrepreneurs across multiple countries. His expertise in business strategy and growth provided valuable insights to the participants. During the presentation, Mr. Sijenyi emphasized that the major challenge facing businesses today is not lack of effort but operating with outdated information in a rapidly changing economy. He highlighted that success depends on working with the right knowledge and adapting to current trends rather than relying on past strategies. He introduced the concept of viewing oneself as a \u201c<strong>solution provider<\/strong>,\u201d encouraging participants to adopt a business mindset regardless of whether they are employed or self-employed. He explained that individuals should perceive themselves as independent entities delivering value to clients or organizations, which enhances accountability, performance, and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The speaker discussed the impact of global and regional economic shifts, noting that economies are increasingly becoming inward-focused while digital transformation continues to reshape business operations. He highlighted emerging opportunities in areas such as agriculture, technology, creative industries, and the blue economy. Additionally, he pointed out the growing significance of diaspora remittances as a major source of economic inflow, creating opportunities for local businesses to serve consumers and investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A key focus of the session was the importance of mindset in adapting to change. Mr. Sijenyi stressed that the difference between successful and struggling businesses lies in perspective. He encouraged participants to view challenges as opportunities and to shift from a mindset of scarcity to one of innovation and growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The speaker also emphasized the importance of building systems rather than relying on effort alone.
