MKU ALUMNI CEOs BREAKFAST FORUM WITH THE CEO
The CEO Breakfast event was successfully held on Friday 25th April, 2025 at Maxland Hotel, Juja Mall. The event brought together senior leaders, business executives, alumni, university representatives, students, and key stakeholders for a morning of inspiring discussions, partnership announcements, and networking. The event was attended by approximately 75 alumni, alongside invited guests, university representatives, reflecting the strength and commitment of the MKU alumni community.
The breakfast forum was officially opened by the Director of Alumni Relations, Mrs.Virginiah Musawa and the Chairperson of the Alumni Executive Board, Mr. Gikera Kihara. They welcomed all attendees, thanked the alumni for their continued engagement, and encouraged even greater participation in alumni activities and initiatives. Their remarks emphasized the important role that alumni play in supporting the university, mentoring students, and driving positive change in the community.
A major highlight of the event was a special session with selected CEOs and founders, who shared personal experiences related to the theme of the day: “Insights on Economic Shifts and Opportunities. “Each speaker discussed how recent economic changes have impacted their industries and businesses, the challenges they encountered, and the strategies they employed to adapt and thrive. They also highlighted emerging opportunities for young professionals and alumni, encouraging resilience, innovation, and proactive engagement in the evolving economic landscape.
The event featured a keynote address by the Deputy Governor of Kajiado County Hon Martin Moshisho, who spoke directly to the theme of the day: “Insights on Economic Shifts and Opportunities.” In his keynote, the Deputy Governor explored how global and local economic trends are evolving, the challenges these shifts present, and the new opportunities they create. He urged alumni and business leaders to stay adaptive, innovative, and to invest in creating sustainable, community-driven solutions.
Adding a powerful student voice to the morning, the President of the MKU University Student Council shared some of the challenges students face today particularly around internships, mentorship, and financial support. He appealed to the alumni CEOs to offer opportunities, mentor students, and support the SheBlooms Alumni pads drive project that is targeting around 5000 girls around all the MKU campuses, a vital initiative aimed at empowering underprivileged girls with sanitary towels so that they can be comfortable while getting their education.
The Principal Communication, Marketing and Alumni Relations, Prof. Peter Wanderi, also spoke at the event. He thanked the Alumni Directorate for the tremendous work they are doing, both for the university and the alumni themselves. His remarks recognized the Directorate’s efforts in building meaningful alumni relationships and strengthening the university’s network of influence.
After all the speakers, the Vice Chancellor of Mount Kenya University, Prof. Deogratius Jaganyi, delivered his remarks. He warmly thanked the Alumni Directorate for their tireless efforts and recognized the alumni for their ongoing support and loyalty to the university. He encouraged alumni to continue supporting current students through mentorship, internships, and projects and urged them to keep giving back to the university, reminding them that MKU is part of their lifelong journey and success.
The Vote of Thanks was then delivered by Ms. Immaculate Kakai, Vice Chairperson of the Alumni Association. She expressed sincere gratitude to all the speakers, sponsors, partners, alumni and guests for their presence and contributions to the success of the event. Her heartfelt words reflected the strong spirit of unity and commitment that defines the MKU alumni community.
In conclusion, the Alumni CEO Breakfast forum was a resounding success, demonstrating the vital role of alumni leadership and partnership in advancing the university’s mission and societal development.
