The Directorate of Career and Alumni Services Support Enhance Graduate Employability and Student Soft Skills

The Directorate of Career and Alumni services is one of the Directorates at Mount Kenya University, which supports programmes to prepare students and alumni transit successfully into the world of work. Having two mandates on Career and Alumni, its roles hybridize into each other.

Objectives of the Directorate

  1. To assist students and alumni in acquiring information, knowledge and competencies that enhance individual career development, academic success and employability
  2. Develop relationships with employers for the purpose of exploring attachments internships and professional employment for students and graduates

A SUMMARY OF KEY FUNCTIONS

Among key functions of the directorate 

  • Enhancing continuing relationship between the university and its alumni
  • Support to the Mount Kenya University Alumni Association
  • Maintaining the data bank of potential employers
  • Carrying out tracer studies on the performance and progress of the alumni
  • Job opportunities jointly with alumni
  • Maintaining a network with employers for possible new–market-driven programmes and jobs
  • Carrying out activities to prepare the student to exit into the job market (successful alumni)          through exit trainings
  • Academic advising, Career Services, Career Counselling Services
  • High School recruitment
  • Linkage and Exchanges between industries and students
  • Graduate tracker Services
  • Supporting Alumni networks
  • Support student and alumni innovation and entrepreneurship incubator

The directorate manages the major activities that manage alumni relations alumni communications, including alumni association events and assist in growing the university corporate image. Since its inception, it has enabled establishes the connection between the present students with the former student (Alumni).

Being part of the association gives a chance to stay engaged and also helpful for assisting new and Career office therefore carry out the mandate via organizing mentorship sessions, seminars, workshops, trainings both physical and virtual, visit to secondary schools to conduct career advisory and mentorship

potential students in skills development events. In this newsletter, a few activities are captured for the reader.
