Alumni Skill’s Week Series Part Three: Basic Virtual Assistant
As part of the Skills Week initiative, the Alumni Directorate successfully hosted a webinar on Basic Virtual Assistance on May 2nd, 2025. The session was facilitated by Ms. Anne Kaai, the Founder and CEO of Vyemma Virtual Assistant, a company specializing in premium virtual assistant services for entrepreneurs, professionals, and small teams.
Vyemma focuses on delivering personalized and efficient support to help clients manage their administrative duties, client relations, and lifestyle management tasks. The webinar was well-received, drawing the interest of 85 alumni participants. During the session, Ms. Kaai provided valuable insights into the evolving role of virtual assistants (VAs). She emphasized that the responsibilities of a VA may vary significantly depending on the client’s needs and the VA’s area of expertise. The following were highlighted as key takeaways from the session:

- Virtual assistants help businesses save time and money by handling repetitive or time-consuming tasks. They present a more cost-effective alternative to hiring full-time, in-office staff.
- VAs possess a wide range of skills and may specialize in areas such as administration, social media management, graphic design, customer support, and more. Many are also proficient in digital tools and platforms.
- Effective communication and trust are fundamental to a successful VA-client relationship. Clear instructions, regular updates, and well-set expectations contribute to long-term success.
- VAs enable business owners to focus on strategic growth by taking over routine tasks. This allows entrepreneurs to dedicate more time to innovation, planning, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
- Virtual assistance is a rapidly growing global industry. With the increasing shift toward remote work, virtual assistants now serve clients across borders, making it a scalable and globally accessible service model.
- VAs can be engaged on a flexible basis—part-time, full-time, or by project—allowing businesses to adapt according to their operational needs.
Ms. Kaai also shared examples of commonly used tools in the virtual assistance space, including Upwork, Fiverr, Freelancer, and Time Doctor (for time tracking and productivity monitoring).
As Skills Week draws to a close, it is evident that the role of a virtual assistant extends well beyond basic administrative support. Virtual assistants have become integral to modern business operations, contributing to increased productivity, operational flexibility, and overall efficiency. With the right tools, clear communication, and a foundation of trust, VAs can serve as indispensable partners to businesses of all sizes.
The Alumni Directorate extends its gratitude to Ms. Anne Kaai for her insightful presentation and to all alumni for their active engagement in making the webinar a success.
